The 'Quiet Lion' DVD

Bob Saunders, former senior producer of the BBC "The World Around Us' series said the documentary had   "... all the elements of a gripping and moving documentary ..."

Professional film crews went on five separate tours down the Kwai and there were two filming expeditions to Thailand as well as other remarkable footage that was obtained to tell this true story of courage and service way beyond duty.

The Documentary not only covers the events leading up to and including the first six months of 1942, it covers the life and death on the Burma-Thai Railway and the continuation of the story to which new chapters are still being added by Australians and Thais.

"The Quiet Lion" is the story of a remarkable man and a great Australian Hero.  "Weary" Dunlop represents our finest attributes and his life and work is still a message and light for all of us today.

With this Documentary we pay tribute to the extraordinary zeal and inventiveness, humour and compassion Sir Edward "Weary" Dunlop displayed under appaling conditions and celebrate the life of a truly great man.

"One of the most moving documentaries ever made ..."

The wartime sketches so bravely made by Jack Chalker are finally available to everyone.  The original collection is housed in the Australian War Memorial.

Quiet Lions Collector's DVD

“The Quiet Lion” is not a restrospective of a moment in history, but a positive look at the legacy that grew out of the horrors of the prison camps during one of Australia’s darkest chapters. From primitive instruments shaped out of tin cans in the sweaty jungles 60 years ago to today’s hi-tech surgery at a Bangkok hospital, ‘The Quiet Lion’ moves tellingly between the ‘then and now’.

Burma Railway - Images of War by Jack Chalker

!

To Hell and Home again ...

The Burma Railway revealed by the brushstrokes of a genius who survived

This book has been obviously put together with great respect for the subject, and considerable design flare. Jack’s paintings and drawings are so evocative of the terrible conditions and inhumane treatment experienced on the Death Railway, the reader is left open-mouthed. Illustrations range from technical drawings of tropical ulcers which would grace a medical textbook, to heartrending pictures of torture.

Photographic images can rarely be as powerful and moving as these paintings and drawings. The crowning achievement of the book is that the reader is taken on a journey where horrific experiences bind men together in comradeship and where human spirit triumphs.
